Spend the spring term 2012 in Bergen

As an international student at Bergen you will be invited to experience winter activites. Stay the whole spring term and enjoy winter, spring and summer here!

We offer three courses for international nursing students during the spring term of 2012. In total you can gain 30 ECTS.

Incoming Erasmus students who want to stay in Bergen for a whole term may combine these three courses, and gain 30 ECTS in total by adding 3 extra weeks to the placement in the second course.

The target groups for these courses are 2nd and 3rd year Bachelor nursing students. The teaching language is English.

Evidence Based Nursing/Critical Thinking - 5 ECTS

“Evidence Based Practice” involves the ability to access, summarize and apply information from the literature to day-to-day clinical problems.

The course introduces the principles and application of Evidence Based Nursing in medical and surgical nursing care. It also includes critical reading and evaluation of scientific papers, focusing on clinical relevance and ways to implement research findings in clinical practice. Students will work with experienced nurses at hospitals and other relevant institutions.

This course starts in February 2012 and lasts for 3 weeks.

Nursing in Municipal Health Care Services/Home Based Care – 15 ECTS

2 weeks of theoretical studies and 8 weeks of clinical practice in home based care.

The course focuses on geriatrics, care for the elderly, emergency care in the municipal health care services, administrating nursing care, old age pedagogic, social science and national health legislation. You will receive tutoring throughout the clinical studies period.

This course starts in February 2012 and lasts for 10 weeks.

Global Health and Cultural Awareness in Nursing – 5 ECTS

 This course will examine the major global health challenges and the major global policy initiatives to address these challenges. Current topics of comparative interest in European nursing will be discussed. We will also discuss the importance of culture in the experience of health and illness.

Central themes are:

  • The policy context, social determinants of health, migration and health, the major global epidemics, mother and child issues, and reproductive health.
  • Care systems in European countries with emphasis on vulnerable groups such as the elderly population, patients in need of mental health care, and pregnant women and care for newborn.

This course starts in June 2012 and lasts for 3 weeks.
