Dinoflagellates - Protoperidinium

The genus Protoperidinium has no chloroplast and live heterotrophic. The red colour bodies are nutrients with oil. The cell wall is composed of many plates in special arrangement. The one flagellum is in a transverse groove along the broadest part of the cell, and the second flagellum is located in the longitudinally groove in the posterior end.
The cell is quite big with the lengths 116-200 my and the broadest part from 110-150 my.
