Golden algae - Dinobryon

Miljø - ferskvann

The cells of Dinobryon are not covered by siliceous structures, but they live in vase-like cases composed of organic matter (cellulose). In some cases the cells are solitary, but often they are united to another to form bushy treelike colonies. The cell is dividing in two new cells and the one can moves to the top of the colony and produce a new case. The trees are formed with repetition of this process. The whole colony swims by means of the flagella.

The species of Dinobryon is very common in lakes or pools with poor in nutrients and usually more or less acid soils.
