Green algae - Volvox

Volvox is the largest swimming colonial green algae.
Video 1: The flagella of each cell get the whole colony to move.
Video 2: The swimming colony of Volvox. Reproduction happens when a minority of cells in a colony forms daughter colonies, which break out.
The daughter colonies are the dark spheres in the mother colony. The number of cells is several hundred or more than a thousand. The colonies are visible for the naked eye. Each cell has two flagella. The cells possess an eye spot which are involved with the reaction to light. It is remarkable how colonies react as a unitary organism on stimuli such as light.
