Field work and research approaches in international Early Childhood Education

2014 – 2016

The UTFORSK project “Field Work and Research Approaches in International Early Childhood Education Studies” address the global attention to Early Childhood Education as the first step in lifelong learning. Politically, there is an increased focus on the role and quality of kindergartens, so also in Norway and China. There is a global diffusion of Early Childhood Education ideas from OECD, EU, World Bank and UNESCO. How these ideas are executed locally in countries with different histories of kindergartens such as Norway and China is therefore of interest.

The partnership consists of three universities, six kindergartens in Bergen, Beijing and Shanghai and one NGO.

Aim

The UTFORSK project is directly linked to the NRC funded research project “Kindergarten as an arena for cultural formation”. One of the goals in the NRC project was to develop research methods for ECE studies. The aim of the UTFORSK project is to develop educational cooperation through increased mobility, kindergarten involvement and a 15 ECTS joint course in focusing on research and field studies in international ECE studies.
