Physical Education and Sports

Sport and physical activity are a part of our cultural tradition and one of our most important health enhancing factors in modern life. Sport has its own value with possibilities for personal achievement goals. Sport develops the whole individual.

The Sports Department lectures on and runs the Research and Development System. This system is connected to Physical Education and Sport in schools and nursery schools, as well as voluntary sporting activities. A full perspective can be shown through a variety of different working and teaching methods, and comprehensive, cross-curricular cooperation.

In the last few years many students from Bergen University College have chosen to study Outdoor Learning. This is a cross-curricular study course where professional resources from physical education, domestic science, and nature studies work together.

This course gives knowledge about nature in its local environment, food and health, outdoor living and nature's larder. One is able to obtain concrete examples of how children can be stimulated in an outdoor setting, sparking off development and wonder, play and learning, enjoyment and attainment, including a large amount of physical activity.

The course in Outdoor Learning can be a productive year for any student. Specific experiences in nature and the great outdoors, as well as course activities, gives the teacher a foundation that will enable pupils to learn and play in nature.
