The different faculties and departments offers a range of courses in English for international students. Most of the courses are integrated in the regular study programmes for Norwegian students and are aimed at exchange students from our many partner institutons around the world. We want the international and the Norwegian students to work together and to get to know each other through beeing together in the same classes, sharing experiences in the clinical field or when working on mutual projects.

Regular Study Programmes (bachelor/master degrees)

Admission to regular courses is based on standard college and university matriculation requirements. In addition a test in the Norwegian language is required. International students are not admitted at regular courses as they are open only for Norwegian speaking persons with a permanent or renewable permit of residence in Norway.

Welcome week

The welcome week takes place in the beginning of each semester and it is an exellent opportunity to meet other international students. During the week we make sure that you get all the necessary information about being a student and living in Bergen. Quota students are also welcome to participate in the welcome week as long as it does not conflict with the program they have been admitted to.

Next Welcome Week will be in August 2012

Testing for tuberculosis and MRSA

If you are going to do clinical placement in the health care sector or in schools and kindergartens, and you have spent more than three months in one of the following countries you are obliged to be tested for tuberculosis: countries outside Western Europe, USA, Canada, New Zealand and Japan.

If you have been working, done placement or been admitted to a hospital or other health care institution outside the Nordic countries you are abliged to be tested for MRSA.

You will not be allowed to start clinical placement if the test is positive so we advice you to take a test before you leave for Norway. You will also be tested in Norway before you start your placement.

Please contact your academic contact person or the international office for information on where to be tested.

Police Certificate of Good Conduct

A police certificate of good conduct is required from all students who will have contact with patients, clients, kindergarten children, pupils or other persons as part of a clinical study or placement through Bergen University College. The certificate must be submitted to the International Office 1 month before arrival in Bergen and must be no older than 3 months.

Registration with local authorities

Depending on the length of stay and country of origin some international students must register with the local police office in Bergen upon arrival in Bergen.
