Centre for New Media

Centre for New Media is a driving force within the university in developing new ways to utilize digital media in research, education and dissemination. The centre has expertise in a wide variety of areas related to production, dissemination and communication through digital media and e-learning.

The centre has extensive experience with graphic design, web design, illustration, animation, video production and digital photography. Our staff's competence covers concept development and content production within a broad range of media platforms, technologies and genres. We also work with various forms of programming, as preparation for web publishing, in connection with app development for mobile devices and tablets or other digital media.

Video is increasingly being used in an educational context, on campus, in digital learning resources and in online distance learning. The centre has its own multimedia studio which facilitates multi-camera productions and live video streaming.

We have developed MedieLab as an new areana for the scientific staff to cooperate, develop and share digital skills. The centre offers pedagogical support and professional recording support and facilities in production of e-learning resources.

The centre has previously offered a number of online distance learning courses in different media and communication topics. As part of the Western Norway University's strategy to strengthen the process of digital tranformation in higher education, the centre's focus has shiftet gradually towards collaboration with and support of faculty staff in developing digital skills, eLearning, digital pedagogy, multimedia production and dissemination.

We also conduct meta research, development and dissemination on e-learning and new media. This is usually in connection with or an extension of project collaboration with educators and researchers at the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences.
